Have Exam Results Changed your Plans?
It’s results day!
Congratulations if you got the grades you wanted and are off to the university of your choice or are starting a new job.
However, if you’ve not got the results you were hoping for this can be a time of uncertainty as difficult decisions need to be made – whether to re-apply to university, accept an offer through clearing or consider other non-university options.
A gap year can give you time to reassess your plans and you could consider spending part of that gap year overseas. Equally you may want to join a project overseas to gain experience in an area that you want to go on to work in.
At Projects Abroad we have a wide range of programs that can be joined by volunteers on their gap years. Whether you’re planning six months ahead or want to go away as soon as possible give us a call on (02) 337-5725 to find out about the projects you can join. Our projects run all year round and you can choose to volunteer for 2 weeks or several months.
Every year we hear from numerous law, veterinary and medical students who want to add overseas experience to their UCAS forms. We can organize placements for anyone wanting to gain this type of experience or those who just want to take some time out and do something a bit different.
Do something different
After what probably feels like a lifetime of studying take time after completing your A-levels to escape from home and do something completely different. You might want to live with Nomads on the edge of the Gobi desert, or learn to scuba dive and conserve the marine environment in Thailand or teach IT in Sri Lanka. There are endless opportunities.
Get work experience
If you want to be a teacher, lawyer, journalist, doctor or vet what better way to get experience than to get hands-on experience overseas. You might help on medical outreach programmes in Tanzania, join a Human Rights project in South Africa or teach English in a school in Jamaica. There are a wide range of opportunities.
Learn a language
What better way to improve your language skills than by studying it overseas. Join one of our Language Courses and you will be able to live with a local family who will be pleased to help you practice whether it be French in West Africa, Spanish in Latin America, Arabic in Morocco. Don’t worry if aren’t a linguist you don’t need to speak any languages before you join most of our programs.
Joining a project and living with a local host family in a country is a great way to prepare yourself for further travelling. Our local staff have a wealth of knowledge they are willing to share with you. Volunteers often go travelling at the weekends whilst on their placements and many volunteers also take the opportunity to travel together further a field after finishing their placements.
